Pamukkale, Turkey
Pamukkale is a small town and UNESCO World Heritage Site in
the southwestern part of Turkey. Pamukkale boasts seventeen of the most
incredible water terraces in the world. For thousands of years, people have
travelled to bathe in these hot springs, which usually range in temperature
from 35 degrees to 100 degrees Celsius. Equally captivating in the striking
contrast between the glistening pools and the travertine, it is a type of
limestone deposited by thermal waters that make the surrounding mountains ever
so beautiful. However, today, visitors are no longer allowed to take a dip in
the turquoise pools.
Eternal Flames Falls, Orchard Park, New York
The Eternal Flames Falls is a small waterfall located in the
Shale Creek Preserve, a section of Chestnut Ridge Park in Western New York. One
can see a flickering flame burning inside a teeny tiny waterfall. At first, you
might not see it, but once you stare a little deeper, you will find the flame
burning bright. Every day a lot of methane gas escapes from this place, making
it highly flammable. Witness the magic unfold before your eyes as you visit
this park and see the fighting flames of fire inside the waterfall. Most of the
time, the water extinguishes the flames, but it lights up again almost
immediately.
Blood Falls Antarctica
Imagine a snowy white mountain having a bloodbath in
between, sounds bizarre, right? Well, in Antarctica, there is a blood red waterfall
staining the white Taylor Glacier! However, the eerily gory waterfall is not,
in fact made of blood. The blood falls of Antarctica may have been a mystery
for quite some time now, but it is not anymore, thanks to the researchers and
glaciologists who have concluded that this occurrence was due to iron oxide,
basically rust, which is present in the water. The water that flows from the
lake creates this blood red hue and eventually makes it look like blood is
flowing out of an unseen wound.
